Alberta union protests over pay for sheriffs in new $29M border patrol team.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) is concerned about the compensation for sheriffs joining the new Interdiction Patrol Team (IPT), part of a $29 million border patrol plan. The IPT will include 51 officers, 10 support staff, and advanced surveillance equipment. AUPE argues that sheriffs are overworked and underpaid compared to RCMP officers and demands fair pay for their increased responsibilities.
