Tasmania to spend $96K daily to keep ferry in Scotland due to unfinished home port berth.

Tasmanian taxpayers will pay an extra $96,000 for the next 30 days to keep the Spirit of Tasmania IV in Scotland due to an unfinished berth in its home port of Devonport, with completion expected in late 2026 or early 2027. The state government is seeking a leasing agreement for the vessel and has hired a broker for advice. Progress is being made on the berth with major construction set for early 2025.
