State Center in Baltimore cleared of Legionella after treatments; building to reopen.
The State Center building in downtown Baltimore, which had Legionella bacteria detected, has been cleared after undergoing water system treatments. The Department of General Services closed the building for mitigation efforts, including flushing and chlorination. After successful retesting, the building can reopen without restrictions. To prevent future outbreaks, regular water testing will be implemented. Legionella can cause Legionnaires' disease, a severe form of pneumonia.
