NBFCs seek government funds and TDS exemption to boost lending for small businesses and green projects.

Non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) have asked India's Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, for dedicated government funds to support their growth and lending to small businesses and green projects. The request comes as NBFCs have increased foreign borrowing due to a decrease in bank lending. The Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC) also asked for the exemption of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) for NBFC borrowers, citing operational difficulties. These requests are part of the pre-budget consultations ahead of the 2025-26 budget.
