Archaeologists unearth 300-year-old complex at Castle Ward, previously undocumented site in Northern Ireland.
During routine drainage work at Castle Ward, a National Trust property in Northern Ireland, archaeologists discovered a 300-year-old complex of buildings, including a courtyard and surrounding structures, not recorded in historical documents.
The remains, believed to date back to the late 1600s or early 1700s, are thought to be a domestic and farm-related complex used by the first Castle Ward house.
The site may have been destroyed when the current mansion was built to preserve the view of Strangford Lough.
