WhatsApp Pay removes user cap, now accessible to all 500 million users in India.
India has lifted the user cap on WhatsApp Pay, allowing the platform to offer its payment services to all of its 500 million users in the country. Previously, the service was limited to 100 million users as part of a phased rollout to ensure a smooth operation. This decision by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) supports digital and financial inclusion goals and may challenge the dominance of Google Pay and PhonePe, which control over 85% of the market. WhatsApp Pay users need to update their app and link a bank account to use the service.
