Temporarily halted: Special passes for Sabarimala pilgrims due to overcrowding and long waits.
The Travancore Devaswom Board has temporarily stopped issuing special passes for pilgrims walking to Sabarimala through the forest route due to a surge in visitors, which has led to longer waiting times for those using the virtual queue and spot booking systems. The special pass system, introduced last month for 5,000 pilgrims, is on hold until further notice. The Sabarimala temple reopened on December 30 for the Makaravilakku festival, which runs until January 14.
