LA Metro becomes first U.S. transit agency to install barriers on all buses, reducing driver assaults by 58%.

Los Angeles Metro has fully installed protective barriers on its 2,105 buses to safeguard drivers from assaults, marking the first transit agency in the U.S. to do so. The shatterproof glass barriers have led to a 58% reduction in assaults since April. Additional safety measures include onboard cameras, digital recorders, emergency buttons, and a public awareness campaign. Assaults on bus operators can result in up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine under state law.
