India's tobacco exports hit a record Rs 12,005.89 crore ($1.45 billion) in 2023-24, marking an 87% rise from 2019-20, mainly due to a surge in international demand for Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco.
This increase also doubled farmers' earnings from Rs 124 per kg to Rs 279.54 per kg.
India is the world's second-largest tobacco producer after China and the second-largest exporter of unmanufactured tobacco after Brazil.
