Global markets fell on Monday, but the S&P 500 is still set for a 25% gain in 2024.

Global markets experienced a downturn on Monday as the year 2024 came to a close. The Nikkei 225 in Japan dropped 1%, while the DAX in Germany, CAC 40 in France, and FTSE 100 in the UK all fell by 0.4%. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones futures were both 0.3% lower. Despite the losses, the S&P 500 is still on track for a 25% gain in 2024, marking two consecutive years of over 20% gains. This growth was driven by strong economic data, a robust labor market, and easing inflation, which also prompted the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates three times in 2024.
