Former Georgia State Senator Vincent Fort, known as "The People's Champion," will lie in state at Atlanta City Hall on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fort, who passed away at 68 due to cancer, was a prominent advocate for social justice, education reform, and economic equality. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at Lindsay Street Baptist Church. Fort, who served from 1996 to 2017, championed laws against predatory lending and hate crimes, and secured funding for technical colleges.
