A 69-year-old Salmon Arm woman lost $9,000 after falling victim to a scam. She received a threatening Facebook pop-up claiming she had accessed child pornography and would be reported if she didn't call a provided number. Scammers convinced her to buy iTunes gift cards and share the codes. Despite warnings, she proceeded. The scammers are believed to be in California, and the gift cards can't be traced. She was advised to attend a fraud presentation and reformat her computer. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre offers scam information.
