Connecticut National Guard, with 4,613 part-time soldiers, trains for state and national defense roles.

The Connecticut National Guard, consisting of the Army and Air National Guard, is a state-based military force of 4,613 soldiers, mostly part-time, who serve under the governor's command for state emergencies and the president's direction for national defense. They train one weekend a month and two weeks annually. Funded by federal defense budgets, they also assist in civil disturbances, as federal troops are restricted by the Posse Comitatus Act from civilian law enforcement.
