Colorado plans to replace about 20,000 lead pipes in 23 cities to avoid water contamination.

Twenty-three Colorado cities face water contamination risks due to about 20,000 aging lead pipes. Federal law requires these pipes to be removed by 2037. Colorado, which still needs to inspect around 170,000 water lines, has received $32.8 million to help with testing and replacement, part of a $2.6 billion national project under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Grand Junction has already spent over $1 million on updates.
