Avian Influenza has been detected in dead geese near Shuswap and Mara Lakes in British Columbia. Human infection is rare but can occur through close contact with infected birds. Symptoms are similar to regular flu. The District of Sicamous urges residents to avoid touching sick or dead animals, keep pets away, and report unusual sightings of deceased waterfowl to the BC Bird Mortality Line.
