Australia's South Coast faces a severe tick season, with more potent parasites affecting pets.

The South Coast of Australia is facing a severe paralysis tick season, with more potent parasites than in previous years. Animal Welfare League centers are reporting a surge in tick cases, with some vets treating up to 15 cases in just two weeks, compared to 15 a year previously. Ticks are proving harder to treat, with some dogs needing multiple doses of anti-venom. Veterinarians warn visitors to ensure their pets are protected and advise regular checks, especially for those within 20 km of the coast.
