Australia implements new vehicle standards to boost EVs and cut emissions, starting Jan 1, 2025.

Australia has introduced the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), effective January 1, 2025, to reduce car emissions and make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible. Manufacturers must meet average emissions limits for their vehicles or pay fines of $100 per gram per kilometre exceeded. This initiative aims to increase EV offerings, enhance competition, and lower prices for consumers. The standards will become stricter annually, with potential fines reaching up to $25,000 for high-emission vehicles by 2029. The government also allocated $60 million to support EV charging infrastructure.
