Ukraine pledges support and delivers aid to Syria, as the country seeks to mend ties with the West.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister met with Syria’s new de facto leader, pledging support and delivering 500 tons of wheat flour to aid Syria’s economic and food crises. Syria, distancing itself from Russia and Iran, is looking to build ties with Western nations and Turkey. The country appointed its first female interim Central Bank governor, Maysaa Sabreen, to help navigate its economic recovery. Turkey is also planning to export electricity to Syria to address power shortages. Clashes have erupted between new rulers and supporters of the ousted Assad regime, resulting in dozens of deaths.
