Starting 2025, drivers in Australia's Capital Territory will be tested for cocaine at roadside checks.

Starting January 1, 2025, the Australian Capital Territory will join New South Wales and Queensland in testing for cocaine use in roadside drug tests. This move comes in response to increased cocaine use since the pandemic. Motorists caught driving under the influence face fines up to $4000 and a six-month license suspension. In New South Wales, positive drug tests can now lead to immediate arrest. Data shows that a quarter of road fatalities involve drivers with drugs other than alcohol.
