Scotland sees 6% rise in students using consortia for school lessons, sparking debate on teacher shortages.
In Scotland, 1,599 students participated in consortia arrangements for school lessons during the 2023-2024 academic year, a 6% increase from the previous year. The number of such arrangements rose from 399 to 471. Liberal Democrats argue this indicates a teacher shortage, while the Scottish Government claims to be investing heavily to restore teaching posts and has the highest paid teachers in the UK.
