Former President Jimmy Carter's efforts helped drop Guinea Worm cases from 3.5 million to 13 worldwide.

Former US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at 100, made significant strides in nearly eradicating Guinea Worm disease. Cases have dropped from 3.5 million annually to just 13 worldwide in 2022. Carter’s efforts through the Carter Center involved providing clean water, filtering drinking water, and treating stagnant water. His work could lead to Guinea Worm becoming the second human disease, after smallpox, to be eradicated globally.
