Trading on a suspect's case was halted after the CFTC intervened following an executive's murder.

In the wake of UnitedHealth Group executive Brian Thompson's murder on December 4, the New York exchange Kalshi allowed retail traders to bet on aspects of the suspect's case, such as extradition and conviction. Trading was halted after regulators intervened. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) can ban such event-related contracts if deemed against public interest. Both the CFTC and Kalshi have not commented further.
