Michigan Maritime Museum launches lecture series highlighting minority contributions to Great Lakes maritime history, starting with WWII SPARS program.

The Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven will launch a lecture series on January 15 called "Whispers Across the Water," focusing on minority contributions to Great Lakes maritime history. The first talk, by Joshua Simon, will explore the Coast Guard's SPARS program during WWII, which saw over 10,000 women serve from 1942 to 1946. Simon will examine how fashion and gender shaped the SPARS' experience and expanded women's roles in the Coast Guard. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m.
