Israel announces closure of its Dublin embassy, citing "antisemitic rhetoric" by Ireland.
In 1990, Benjamin Netanyahu visited Dublin to establish an Israeli embassy in Ireland, which was one of the few European countries without one. An Israeli embassy opened in 1993, followed by an Irish embassy in Israel in 1996. However, in late 2024, Israel announced it would close its embassy in Dublin, accusing Ireland of "antisemitic rhetoric." This came after Ireland recognized Palestinian statehood and planned to intervene in South Africa's case against Israel for genocide at the International Court of Justice.
