Michigan Supreme Court upholds 2017 assault convictions against Benjamin McKewen, rejecting double jeopardy claims.

The Michigan Supreme Court recently upheld the 2017 assault convictions of Benjamin McKewen, who was convicted of assaulting someone with a knife. McKewen was sentenced to concurrent terms of 5 to 10 years for assault with intent to do great bodily harm and 2 to 4 years for felonious assault. The court ruled that the convictions were not mutually exclusive and did not violate double jeopardy protections.
