Italian skier Federica Brignone led the first run of a women's World Cup giant slalom in Semmering, Austria, aiming for Italy's first win in the event in 22 years. She edged out defending champion Lara Gut-Behrami and Olympic champion Sara Hector. With Mikaela Shiffrin injured, Paula Moltzan was the top American racer, finishing fourth. Brignone has won three of the last four giant slaloms and is ranked second in the discipline this season.
