The Sri Lanka National Zoological Gardens Department reported a 150% increase in revenue in 2024, reaching 1.42 billion rupees ($5 million) by December 23, with potential to reach 2 billion rupees ($9.2 million) by year-end.
The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage contributed the most, at 61.4%, followed by the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens (22%), Ridiyagama Safari Park (9%), and Pinnawala Open Zoo (7.5%).
January was the most profitable month, and similar income levels are expected in January 2025.
