Missouri launches new department to combat high veteran suicide rates, appoints first prevention manager.

Missouri, facing one of the nation's highest veteran suicide rates with nearly 200 deaths annually, has launched a new department to tackle the issue. The state appointed Lindsey Ward, a former Marine and sociology graduate, as its first Veterans Suicide Prevention Manager. The department aims to identify and eliminate barriers that veterans face in accessing mental health support and plans to present ideas to reduce suicide numbers by July 1st.
