Starting January 1, 2025, Kansas will eliminate the state sales tax on groceries, following a gradual reduction from 6.5% in 2022 to 2% in 2024. The tax cut, signed into law in 2022, will apply to basic food items, saving an average family over $500 a year. However, prepared foods, alcohol, and tobacco will still be taxed. Local sales taxes will also continue to apply.
