Belarus sentences opposition activist to 6 years for protesting against the government.

Belarus has sentenced opposition activist Dzmitry Kuchuk to six years in prison for public order violations and undermining national security. Kuchuk was arrested after memorializing Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This follows a crackdown on dissent since the disputed 2020 election, with over 65,000 arrested. Kuchuk is one of 1,300 identified political prisoners by human rights group Viasna, as President Alexander Lukashenko runs for a seventh term in January.
