Pakistani SEC halts Crescent Star Insurance's guarantee business due to improper Rs229B guarantees.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has halted the guarantee business of Crescent Star Insurance Limited due to the company issuing Rs229 billion worth of guarantees without proper collateral or reinsurance. Crescent Star failed to comply with regulatory requirements despite multiple chances to demonstrate compliance. The company is now ordered to meet its existing obligations without issuing new guarantees. It can appeal if it meets regulatory standards. Similar actions are underway against United Insurance Company, which has received a stay order from the Lahore High Court.
