New Zealand's Bay of Plenty Regional Council is reminding water users to follow safety rules and wear lifejackets during the busy summer season. The council's maritime team has been patrolling since Labour Day, focusing on boat speed limits and swim-only zones. Last summer, over 150 infringements were issued. Water Safety New Zealand stresses that 13 of the 14 watercraft-related deaths this year involved people not wearing lifejackets.
