Malaysian civil servants advised to avoid extra loans despite upcoming salary increases.

Civil servants in Malaysia have been advised by Cuepacs to avoid unnecessary loans following salary hikes under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA). Secretary-General Abdul Rahman Mohd Nordin warned that the salary increases should not be seen as an excuse to take on more debt. The SSPA provides a 15% salary boost for certain groups, phased in December and January 2026, and a 7% increase for top management. Rahman noted the raise was timely given the lack of salary reviews over the past 12 years and rising living costs.
