India aims to provide tap water to all rural homes by 2025, targeting 40 million households.

The Jal Shakti Ministry in India has set a new target for 2025 to provide tap water connections to all rural households, aiming to cover the remaining four crore households. Eleven states have already achieved full coverage, but larger states like Rajasthan and West Bengal lag with less than 60%. The ministry also plans to achieve Open Defecation Free Plus status for all villages and advance ecological restoration under the Namami Gange Programme.
