A forestry worker's death led to safety charges against two companies, highlighting risks in New Zealand's logging industry.

In June 2021, 23-year-old forestry worker Jake Duncan was killed when a log broke loose during a logging method called plugging and bridging in Tangoio, New Zealand. WorkSafe charged his employer, Logged on Logging 2020 Limited, and another company, Forest Management (NZ) Limited, for health and safety failures. The court ordered Logged on Logging to pay reparations, highlighting the need for better risk assessments in forestry, an industry with a high fatality rate.
