Irish psychiatrists warn of life-threatening shortages in eating disorder treatment resources.

The College of Psychiatrists of Ireland has warned of serious shortages in resources for treating eating disorders, calling for the full implementation of a 2018 Health Service Executive (HSE) care model. Dr. Art Malone, a consultant psychiatrist, stressed the severe consequences of untreated eating disorders, which can be life-threatening and damage social and occupational wellbeing. The HSE plan aimed to establish 16 specialist teams, 23 adult inpatient beds, and eight for children, but many lack access to such care, leading some to seek treatment abroad. Existing teams often face understaffing and funding issues.
