India sets up tribunal to decide if ULFA, an Assam separatist group, should remain banned.

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has set up a tribunal to decide if the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) should be declared an unlawful association. The tribunal, led by Justice Michael Zothankhuma, follows the MHA extending ULFA's ban by five years due to its efforts to separate Assam from India and ties to other insurgent groups. ULFA was first banned in 1990, with the latest extension occurring in November 2019.
