Ex-BNP leader freed after 17 years following acquittal in 2004 grenade attack case.

Former BNP Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Pintu has been released after nearly 17 years in prison, following his acquittal in the 2004 August 21 grenade attack case. Pintu, who was sentenced to death, was freed after the High Court ruled the trial court’s decision illegal. He was among 19 people initially sentenced to death in the case. Upon his release, Pintu plans to visit BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's mausoleum and the party’s central office in Dhaka.
