On Christmas Eve, over 140 patients were waiting on trolleys in Irish hospitals, with 99 in emergency departments and 45 in other wards. University Hospital Limerick had the highest number of patients waiting for beds, with 43. The Health Service Executive (HSE) warned that flu admissions may double during the festive season, with up to 900 cases in hospitals by year-end, peaking in early January.
