B.C. Court rules Vancouver's law to expedite housing development in Kitsilano is unconstitutional.

The B.C. Court of Appeal ruled that a law passed in 2023 to expedite a 12-storey supportive housing development in Vancouver's Kitsilano neighborhood is unconstitutional. The law, designed to bypass opposition from local groups, interfered with the court's constitutional role, according to the ruling. The Kitsilano Coalition for Children & Family Safety Society had challenged the law, arguing it bypassed their right to contest the development's rezoning. The city is reviewing the decision, and construction has not yet begun.
