Western Australian weaner sale sees high prices, while Victorian farmer struggles with cost and weight challenges.
The Boyanup weaner sale in Western Australia concluded the year with strong prices, with 1,350 mostly quality calves sold by Nutrien Livestock and Elders. Top steer calves reached $1354, and heifers sold up to $1192. In contrast, Scott Walters, a farmer in Euroa, faces challenges due to higher costs and a tough season, selling 40, 9-10 month old steers and heifers in January despite cattle weighing 20kg less than usual.
