Manitoba reinstates fuel tax at 12.5 cents per litre in 2024, with a further cut planned for 2025.

Manitoba will reinstate its fuel tax on January 1, 2024, at a reduced rate of 12.5 cents per litre, down from 14 cents previously. The tax was suspended for a year to ease cost of living pressures. Despite the holiday, Manitoba saw the highest food inflation. The Premier, Wab Kinew, promises a permanent 10% cut to the gas tax starting January 1, 2025. The reinstated tax is expected to raise $304 million, helping to reduce the provincial deficit.
