Family seeks return of Ethiopian leader's gold medal, taken by Italian forces during WWII.
The family of Ethiopian resistance leader Ras Desta Damtew is trying to reclaim a gold medal taken by Italian forces during WWII. The Imperial Order of the Star of Ethiopia, valued at €60,000-90,000, failed to sell at an online auction. Now, the British owner is in talks with Damtew's descendants. The medal's return is significant as Damtew was allegedly executed by Italian officers after his capture in 1937.
