China cuts cost of cochlear implants by over 75%, making them more accessible to patients.
China has lowered the cost of cochlear implants from over 200,000 yuan ($27,400) to about 50,000 yuan through its first centralized procurement program. The National Healthcare Security Administration procured 11,000 sets from five companies. Cochlear implants, which stimulate auditory nerves, are crucial for treating severe hearing loss and preventing speech disabilities in children. The reduced prices will be available starting March 3, potentially making these devices more accessible and paving the way for nationwide reimbursement.
