A notorious gangster, Shamnad, accused in 22 criminal cases including attempted murder and offenses under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, was arrested at the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border by Kerala Police and the State Anti-Terrorism Squad. Shamnad, who had been hiding in North India and Nepal, was the main suspect in a 2016 theft case where he impersonated vigilance officers to steal gold and valuables. He had ties to a terrorist group, and his arrest followed a confidential tip-off.
