Madhya Pradesh receives Asiatic lions from Gujarat in exchange for Bengal tigers to boost genetic diversity.

Madhya Pradesh received two three-year-old Asiatic lions from Gujarat's Sakkarbaug Zoo in an animal exchange program, transporting them over 900 kilometers to Bhopal's Van Vihar National Park. In return, Madhya Pradesh sent two Bengal tigers to Junagadh Zoo. This exchange aims to maintain genetic diversity and a healthy population balance. Madhya Pradesh retains its 'Tiger State' title with a tiger population representing 26% of India's total big cats.
