India sees 12% drop in domestic migration due to improved local services and economic opportunities.

The Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council reports a 12% decrease in domestic migration in India, from 45.7 crore to 40.2 crore, between 2011 and 2023. The migration rate dropped from 37.64% to 28.88%. This decline is attributed to improved services, education, health, infrastructure, and better economic opportunities closer to home. Mumbai remains the top destination for migrants, while West Bengal and Rajasthan are new key attraction areas.
