Former England World Cup player George Eastham, who fought for player rights, has died at 88.

George Eastham, an 88-year-old former English footballer, has passed away. A member of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad, Eastham played for Newcastle, Arsenal, and Stoke City. Though he didn't play in the 1966 final, his 1963 court case against "slavery contracts" reformed the British transfer market. Eastham was also an outspoken opponent of apartheid while coaching in South Africa. Stoke City players will wear black armbands in his honor.
