Colombian rebel group ELN declares a truce from Christmas to January 3, seeking peace by 2025.

Colombia's largest rebel group, the ELN, announced a unilateral truce from December 25 to January 3, marking their first since August. Founded in the 1960s, the ELN has around 6,000 fighters and funds themselves through illegal mining, extortion, and the drug trade. Peace talks with the Colombian government stalled over disagreements about ending kidnappings and taxing civilians. President Gustavo Petro aims for nationwide peace by 2025.
