The U.S. population grew by nearly 1% in 2024, reaching over 340 million, its fastest growth rate in 23 years. Immigration was the main driver, accounting for 84% of the 3.3 million increase, with net international migration adding almost 2.8 million people. Births also exceeded deaths by 519,000, up from 146,000 in 2021. Texas and Florida saw the biggest population increases, with immigration playing a crucial role in 16 states that would otherwise have experienced declines.
